National Firearm’s Act

In 1934, the Federal Government enacted regulations for registering certain firearms under the National Firearms Act (NFA). Firearm’s under the NFA Act of 1934 are referred to as “Title 2” or “Class 3” weapons and include Machine Guns, Silencers, Short Barrel Rifles (SBR), Short Barrel Shotguns (SBS), Any Other Weapons (AOW) and Destructive Devices (DD).

Transfer of these firearms requires the purchaser (also known as the “Transferee”) to register the firearm and the process generally takes from three to six months to complete. The transfer requires a Form-4 for Tax Paid Transfer of a Firearm, Certificate of Compliance, Finger Print Cards, Photos and a Tax Payment of $200 ($5 for AOWs).
